Type it the way you are used to

With the street type abbreviated (u., krt.), without accents, with the postal code at the end of the address. The list updates as you type; the details of the selected address appear below.

Data status: Magyar Posta — dataset of 21 September 2026 · KSH Gazetteer (Helységnévtár) — 2025 edition · OpenStreetMap — extract of 16 August 2026 · GeoNames — download of 16 August 2026 · National Election Office (Nemzeti Választási Iroda) — dataset of 16 January 2026

What it does

Settlements and postal codes

Official settlement names with KSH code, postal codes and administrative classification.

Streets and house numbers

Street, square and house number — where the source used contains them. Where it does not, the response says so.

Abbreviations, accents, typos

The abbreviations “bp”, “krt” and “u.” (Budapest, körút, utca), input without accents and common typos also return matches.

Postal code as a filter

A postal code typed at the end of the address narrows the matches. If no match belongs to it, we show a wider list — and say so there.

Match level and source

Every match says how far it got — house, street or settlement — and which sources it relies on: in the live demo on the card, in the API response in a separate field.

What it does not currently return

  • Validation of floor, door, staircase and building. The search recognises flat details written after the house number (“2. em. 4. ajtó” – 2nd floor, door 4; “fszt.” – ground floor), returns them in a separate field (sub_premise), and they do not interfere with choosing the house number — but as no public source is available, it does not validate them.
  • County and district (járás) in Budapest: the capital belongs to neither, so these fields are empty there. The response gives the city district (kerület), and shows Budapest streets with the same name in a separate row for each city district.
  • Official certification. Adatka is not an official address register: it compares public sources and shows which of them it worked from.

Where it helps

It belongs wherever addresses are typed in. The following are ways to use it, not client references.

Online shop checkout

The customer selects their address from the list while typing

Postal code, settlement and street go into the order in a consistent spelling

It also suggests house numbers where the source contains them

Customer service, taking addresses by phone

A dictated address can be found even without accents and without the street type

The list updates as you type; there is no need to wait for the full address

If the requested house number is not in our data, the list offers the known house numbers of the street

Registration and business administration forms

The selected address also comes with a KSH code and coordinates

The coordinates come with their precision

A uniform address object as on the other endpoints

The boxes are empty on purpose. Only a result that we have actually measured with a user goes here — with the method and period of measurement and with the user’s consent.

How to call it

A simple REST API with JSON responses. A uniform address object on every endpoint.

It can be called from any system and programming language that can send an HTTP request and read JSON — no separate library is needed.

We do not currently offer ready-made plugins for individual platforms. If you need one for your system, write to us: info@adatka.hu.

The details of the call — parameters, fields, error codes and examples — are in the API documentation. You can also view the raw response in the live demo with the “API response (JSON)” button.
