Rules for honest communication

These rules describe how we inform you about Adatka: on the website, in the API documentation, in the Development log and on the legal pages.

We only include a rule here if we already follow it today. If a rule changes, we say so in the log.

This page is a translation of the Hungarian original. If the two differ, the Hungarian text prevails.

Why?

For a data service, what matters is not that it appears flawless, but that you know what you can expect from it. That is why we strive to name the weaknesses too, not only what is new.

1. Everything has a date

1.1. Every measurement, log entry and legal text has a date.

1.2. We state a quality indicator — for example accuracy or coverage — only on the basis of a measurement, and we say when and what we measured.

2. We do not rewrite the past

2.1. We do not rewrite or delete a published log entry.

2.2. If an entry turns out to be wrong, a dated correction is added below it, and the original text also remains visible.

2.3. An exception to this is where the text contains personal data, infringes the rights of another person or poses a security risk. In such cases we remove the part concerned and mark the removal, with a date, in its place.

2.4. Correcting a spelling or stylistic error that does not affect the content does not count as rewriting. We may do this without the dated correction described in rule 2.2.

3. Changes to the legal texts

3.1. On every legal page we state what we have changed on it since 2 October 2026, and when. The Terms of service, the Privacy notice and the Data processing terms also state the date on which they take effect.

3.2. We keep the earlier versions of the Terms of service and send them on request (Terms of service, section 8).

3.3. We also announce a material change to the Terms of service on the home page (Terms of service, section 8).

3.4. From 23 October 2026, we also briefly note changes to the legal texts in the Development log; the full text can still be read on the legal page concerned.

4. Deadlines and incomplete data

4.1. We only give a deadline if we actually commit to it.

4.2. The data come from published or openly licensed sources; they are incomplete and may also contain errors. If there is no match for an address, that does not prove that the address does not exist (Terms of service, section 4).

5. Source and name

5.1. For every match, the meta.sources field names the sources it was built from. A known gap: for matches at street or settlement part level, the GeoNames identifier and the time zone come from GeoNames, yet GeoNames does not appear in the list of sources.

5.2. We only name a source that we actually work from.

5.3. We only name a client with their permission.

6. Links and web addresses

6.1. Where a page relies on another page, it points to it with a live link. Every rule and every log entry has its own web address that can be linked to.

6.2. If a published page moves elsewhere, the old web address redirects to the new one; if a page is removed, we say so in the log. We have followed this rule since 23 October 2026: before that, the web address of one page (/normalizalas/) was removed without a redirect.

7. If you find an error

7.1. Write to info@adatka.hu. If you find an error in a log entry, the correction appears as described in section 2; if the error is on one of the legal pages, we announce the change as described in section 3.

8. The status of these rules

8.1. These rules describe the way we inform you. They do not amend the Terms of service; in the event of a discrepancy, the Terms of service prevail. Liability is governed by section 7 of the Terms of service.

8.2. We also note changes to this page in the log.

In force: 23 October 2026
